Estate Management Grant Scheme
Leitrim County Council supports the voluntary work of active Residents Associations in Local Authority estates in various locations in County Leitrim under the Estate Management Grant Scheme. The aim of the scheme, which was developed a number of years ago through the former Housing & Corporate Services SPC and in consultation with the Leitrim Residents Network, and approved by the former Council, is to encourage and support Resident Associations in local authority housing schemes to undertake works which will improve the appearance of their estate and enhance the quality of life of it’s residents.
The Estate Management Grant Scheme consists of a Flat-Rate Contribution to active Residents Associations. It is intended that this flat-rate payment will contribute towards the cost of public liability insurance, maintenance of equipment (service, routine repair, petrol/oil etc.), shrubs etc.
In 2016 €2,000 has also been allocated to each of the three Municipal Districts (Carrick on Shannon, Ballinamore & Manorhamilton) and this Funding will be used to fund particular Local Authority estate works within each Municipal District.
Other Estate Management / Tenant Participation Initiatives include:
· The Estate Management Community Employment Scheme is implemented by Leitrim Development Company with financial assistance from Leitrim County Council. This Scheme has proved successful in maintaining local authority estates throughout the county. The Scheme Supervisor works in close conjunction with residents associations and Leitrim County Council
· Presence: visiting estates and attending residents association meeting if and when required
· Assistance: facilitating groups to seek assistance from other government, non-government and voluntary bodies
· Housing Services: co-ordinating and monitoring the delivery of all Housing Section services, and liaising with other sections in relation to the delivery of their services
· Training: organising and facilitating pre-tenancy training courses for prospective tenants.
· Forum: establishing a County-wide Residents Forum
· Handbook: preparing a tenants handbook
· Anti-Social Behaviour: taking serious and proactive action against anti-social behaviour
